What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?
“The project we embarked on was about enhancing what the school provides, with an additional focus on equipping children with the social and emotional skills that will enable them to develop into successful adolescents and young adults. As many educationalists will tell you play is a tremendous way of providing children with new skills and opportunities. Play allows children to enjoy participating in learning.”
The Project:
“The school wishes to provide children with a play and learning area that incorporates the following.
A ‘Believe, Achieve, Succeed Play Area’.
This space will be all about children learning and playing.”

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:
Wooden Agility Area: Our Yenissey Combination Trail which combines a Balance Weave, Rope Balance, 2 x Log Balances, Rope Traverse and a Log Crossing was a perfect fit for the unused patch of grass in between the two existing tarmac play areas.
Sports Area: A full 22m x 12m Sports Court was created including 2 x Curved Primary Play Goal Ends with activity side panels and thermoplastic court markings. A Hot Shot Ball Game was included to for the basketball/netball enthusiasts.
Thermoplastic Ground Graphics: A large selection of bespoke ground graphics was laid throughout the main tarmac play area including: 1 – 25 Numbered, Alphabet, Mirror Moves, Maths, Times Table Grid, Spell Jump, World Map, Famous 5 Multi-Skills Zone, Fast Feet, Target Trainer, Nine Square Grid, Circle Step and a Multi-Step Column.
Imagination Area: To provide a zone of imaginative and constructive play Red Lane Primary School are among one of our many new owners of an Imagination Playground in a Cart Set which combines many different shapes and connections for the children to create their own play space.
Quiet Area: KS2 Square Picnic benches were required in this new area for rest and relaxation.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:
The sheer amount of new play opportunities now available will give the children a more positive area to develop their skills whilst learning and having fun. Their physical activity and problem solving skills will be improved by completing challenges linked to the new Ground Graphic Games. The Sports Area provides a zone for competitive games whilst promoting health and wellbeing. Upper and lower body strength will be improved by using the new Combination Trail and cooperation with other children is essential developing their social skills. The children’s new quiet area provides a hub of relaxation and provides a point for more in depth social interaction.

What were your main reasons for working with EPE over other competitors?
“Approachable staff, Consideration to the needs of Red Lane and the budget available, Experience of working within similar school environments, Ability of EPE staff to deal with concerns and assist with suggestions and/or available alternatives and Competitive pricing.”
