“We hardly noticed they were here. They were polite and answered any questions they were asked. We are asking our children to make some comments about what they think of the new play area and we will publish them on our website.”

J. Smith – School Business Manager

What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?

“Current playground lines were old and faded. We needed something bright to stimulate our deaf children.”

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:

There were two areas for us to develop at Longwill School, the first was the upper playground in which we installed a selection of Educational and Fun Play Panels. These included an Alphabet Writing Panel, Ball Maze Panel, Chunky Noughts & Crosses, Car Driving Panel and Local Shop Panel.

The lower playground area was developed with Ground Graphics to create a sports zone and imaginative games area. We installed two full size courts for Netball and Football. In between the courts we provided a score board panel so the children can keep track on the team’s results. Our 20m Sprint Track was completed with a Solar Powered Stop Watch so the children could time their running. In the imaginative and games area we provided a 1-20 Number Line, Large Hopscotch, 1-100 Snakes and Ladders and a large A-Z Caterpillar. 2 Zebra Crossings were positioned to help the children with crossing the existing road track and pavement.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:

The range of Play Panels and Thermoplastic Ground Graphics the children now have use to will encourage them to increase their physical activity whilst improving health and well-being. They now have opportunities to improve imaginative, social and problem solving skills.

What were your main reasons for working with EPE over other competitors?

“EPE could provide everything we wanted to do.”
