Hardwick Primary School

Bury St Edmunds - Suffolk

Built: January 4, 2015

“It has exceeded all our expectations in terms of physical development, enjoyment and safety. Many people, including parents, have commented on the excellent quality and effectiveness of both the apparatus and the safety surface. We wanted something that could be transformed with a bit of imagination into something more than just a piece of play equipment and the activity tower was exactly what we were looking for to go in our EYFS outdoor area. Already we have turned it into a pirate ship and a space rocket. The children really love it! A great piece of equipment for schools and a great company to work with.”
D. Jones – Headteacher

What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?
The school were looking for a piece of play equipment for their Early Years outdoor area and the teachers wanted a Timber Multi-Level Activity Tower.

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:
Our Olympus Multi-Level Activity Tower provided all the activities that the Teachers were looking for to offer a new challenging climbing environment for the Early Years children. Our installation team worked over a weekend to minimise disruption to the school as the existing grass field was the main play area for the children who have increased outdoor play schedules due to their age. The Softmulch was laid the following week and joined to the existing patio extending from the classroom creating the perfect all-weather play surface.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:
The new Olympus offers children many different play opportunities including balancing, climbing, traversing, crawling and sliding. Active and cooperative play is encouraged as the children work
together or independently to scale the structure using the many different entrance and exit points. Educational Play Panels have also been included to stimulate numeracy and literacy skills.
