What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?
“We needed to improve additional activities for the children to do during break times and to provide a shaded area for work, lunch and play.”

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:
We provided age appropriate Thermoplastic Ground Graphics to both KS1 and KS2 play areas. The KS1 area included a 10m x 5m Mini Football Pitch, 1 – 36 Snakes and Ladders, 4m Circular Maze, Alphabet Shapes and Jump and Spell whilst over in the KS2 area the school chose an Hopscotch, Chess Board, 1 – 36 Snakes and Ladders, 1 – 12 Times Table Grid and a 4m Target Circle. Each graphic brings its own colour scheme to the once lifeless tarmac play areas and are a great way to improve activity within a large playground. The 5.5m Hexagonal Outdoor Classroom was custom built to the school’s needs to provide shelter, shade and seating for a whole class. A roof light was added giving the inside of the shelter more than enough light to provide outdoor lessons within it. Vegetable growing stations were also supplied to the nursery section of the school.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:
The graphics will provide a new range of activities for all ages and abilities. They have been specifically chosen to help improve physical activity, coordination, literacy and numeracy skills.
The new classroom provides an area for the children to meet and socialise and it can be utilised as an outdoor tool for lessons linked to the school’s curriculum. The Vegetable Growing Stations will help the children discover the process of growing their own produce and can be used to help teach them about the importance of healthy eating.
