Sheargold – Head Teacher What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space? “No provision for Key Stage 1 children.” How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children: The school had an abundance of space within their tarmac play area but it was empty and uninspiring for the children. Working with the year leader and head teacher we proposed to include one of our Purus Combination Trails joined onto a Play Frame 5. The two units work in unison together providing a full range of active play opportunities. The units were surfaced with Rubber Mulch Safety Surfacing. The Purus Combination Trail includes a Tightrope, Log Balances, Rope Twist, Log Roll, Rope Web and a high-level challenge Monkey Bars set. The Play Frame 5 has an amazing 13 stations of activity including a Log Balance, Rope Balance, Rope Traverse, Log Crossing, Traverse Walls, Log Roll, Rope Weave, Rope Twist, Balance Weave, Roll Over Bars, Chin Up Bars and a Rope Challenge To offer the children a recreation and reading space we provided a Planter Pergola with some Artificial Grass underneath. This creates a calming space for the children where they can explore reading, digging and planting. How the children will benefit from the new play area: Our Combination Trails and Play Frames are designed to Encourage physical activity and a healthy lifestyle Help to reduce childhood obesity Develop upper and lower body strength Replicate a challenging climbing environment They provide a natural, challenging play environment for the children allowing them to test themselves with a range of new skills including climbing, balancing, traversing, jumping and swinging. The Planter Pergola provides shade and shelter and gives the children an area to relax and socialise. The planters can encourage digging, panting and growing activities too.
