Winton Primary School

Bournemouth - Dorset

Built: September 2, 2015

What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?

The existing grass area needed some more play opportunities to get the children excited about being active.

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:

We designed a scheme to fit around the existing trail equipment and included equipment to compliment the large space by providing many different choices at one time. The school decided on a 1.2m High Double Multi Play Tower with Slide, Sloping Link Ladder, Scramble Net, Fireman’s Pole and Tunnel Link. A Forest Climber 2 unstructured climbing unit and an over and under tunnel. The entire 520m² area was completed with Rubber Mulch safety surfacing to provide a protected all weather continuous play surface, a land and sea theme was included to capture imagination.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:

The children now have so many choices to get them involved in fun, physical activity. They can climb to improve upper and lower body strength, crawl and clamber to improve coordination skills and keep constantly active at break times to improve health and well-being.
