Lathallan School

Angus - Aberdeenshire

Built: June 29, 2015

“Thanks very much, all looking very good. I’m sure the children will have many happy years using the equipment.”
K. Coutts – Estate and Projects Manager

What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?
The school’s existing timber trail was over 10 years old and needed replacing. More active and challenging fitness type trail was preferred.

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:
Using some of the older units that had passed the safety inspection we incorporated our new Adventure Trail design to create a continuous loop of activity. The Assault Wall, Timber Gate Climber, Net Climb and Up & Over are a selection of our more challenging units to satisfy the older children’s idea of adventure. A Balance Junction was included as a link between both old and new trails. Our 2.4m Timber Group Swing was installed adjacent to the new trail to provide a different choice of playtime activity.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:
Upper and Lower body strength will be tested as well as coordination to get over the harder obstacles. With so many more new choices the children will be encouraged to increase their physical activity and fitness.
