Kings Meadow School

What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?
Kings Meadow School is a day, community and special school for primary aged pupils, who have severe social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. The existing Play Area was very run down and had become a potential health and safety risk for the children.

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:
As it had seen better days our removals team had to start by removing all of the existing equipment, surfacing and fencing. We now had a blank canvas to work with and replaced the old equipment with a focal Forest Climber unit surrounded by individual stations of various activity and different levels of challenge. Once all of the equipment had been installed we then laid a road stone base in preparation for our Soft Mulch surfacing, this would ensure that the soft ground beneath would not affect the stability of the all weather surfacing. A mixture of colours were used around each different unit to help engage the children physically and mentally. New fencing and a lockable gate were also installed to help keep the area secure.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:
The children at Kings Meadow School now have a wide range of activities to help encourage Active and Cooperative Play. The previous area was surfaced with bark and was often out of bounds due to the weather conditions. By using our bonded Soft Mulch surfacing we have now created an all- weather Play Area for the children to enjoy at any time of the school year.
