What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space?
Clarendon is a day community special school for pupils aged 7-16 with moderate learning difficulties and additional complex needs (including Autism). They were focusing on improving playtimes for
pupils and the music equipment provided different opportunities for play for a number of their pupils.

How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children:
We wanted to create a musical feature corner to provide the children with a separate zone where they could play and enjoy different types of music. Working with the school’s ideas we agreed on a perfect selection of the Swirl, Tubano Drums and a wall mounted Playtronic Piano Keys panel. The Swirl and Tubano Drums provide a physical form of creating music whilst the specific positioning
of the instruments means they can be enjoyed by many different children at once and performances can be held as the other children sit and listen. The wall mounted Piano panel offers an electronic media to provide pleasant calming sounds.

How the children will benefit from the new play area:
By incorporating the Swirl, Tubano Drums and Playtronic Piano Keys Outdoor Musical Instruments in the play space children can create beautiful, melodic music straight away even if they are doing it for the first time. Teachers are able to draw out any hidden talents that can be explored through melody or rhythm that might otherwise have been missed. This configuration of the three instruments allows children to also make their own choices and to enjoy their musical play in a non-directive way.
