Boscastle Community Primary School Boscastle - Cornwall Built: September 25, 2020 “Superb communication, support for planning and swift response from planning to completion stage… despite the pandemic! 10/10 Excellent!” D. Conjoyce – Head Teacher What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space? “Our previous, much loved apparatus was no longer usable. We wanted the children to have a creative space to explore. We also wanted to have clear sight lines across the playground.” How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children: The school had an existing timber castle unit that was removed leaving a large open colourful wet pour area albeit in need of a bit of repair. We undertook a new open ended design which focused on a centre piece of a Forest Climber Fratello with a Log Roll, Roll Over Bars and a Log Crossing situated as stand alone units. The design blended with the existing wet pour design showing a central island and river and roadway around it. The wet pour was repaired where required. All equipment included steel feet extensions to keep ongoing maintenance as simple as possible for the school. How the children will benefit from the new play area: The children will benefit from a range of new play opportunities which provide an unstructured climbing environment. The area is designed to challenge their climbing, balancing, jumping, swinging and traversing whilst improving their physical fitness and health. What were your main reasons for working with EPE over other competitors? “Reputation and service.” Would you work with us again? Yes Would you recommend us to other schools?
