A Local Area for Play (LAP) is a small, low-key play area designed for young children, typically under the age of six. These areas are intended to be close to homes, providing a safe and accessible local area of play space for toddlers to play within sight of their caregivers.

  • Size: Typically around 100 square meters.
  • Proximity: Located within 1-minute walking distance (approximately 100 meters) from homes.
  • Facilities: Simple, low-maintenance play equipment like a sandbox, spring riders, or small slides.
  • Safety: Enclosed with fencing to ensure safety and visibility.

Purpose:

LAPs are designed to encourage outdoor play and physical activity among young children, fostering their social, cognitive, and physical development. They also provide a meeting point for parents and caregivers, encouraging a better community.
