Holt – Head Teacher What were the reasons for developing your outdoor space? “Our old equipment was tired, needed revamping and wasn’t challenging enough for the children. The school and PTA funded together to make a change.” How we transformed the play area to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the children: The previous play equipment had become tired and offered a very standard routine of play for the children. When we approached the design, it was clear that we needed to cater for all age groups but to also bring some excitement back into the play area to encourage the children to use it to their benefit. We provided a design which focused on an unstructured play environment giving the children their own opportunity to decide where to go next, how to play and what way to tackle the equipment. We used our Forest Climber Mezzo as a main focal piece to allow many children at once to benefit from it’s random design of scattered logs and ropes. We positioned our Up & Over, Chin Up Bars and Overhead Trapeze as stand alone climbing and play structures. The whole area was completed with our Rubber Mulch Safety Surfacing in a land and sea theme. How the children will benefit from the new play area: The children now have the encouragement to go and enjoy their play times meaning they will benefit from increased physical activity and help them develop many different skills such as balancing, traversing, climbing, crawling and risk taking. Their physical upper and lower body strength will be developed with continuous use of their new play area making for entirely better approach to their health and wellbeing.
